Research to advance the knowledge on climate change
Research on climate change has been developed in São Paulo State for at least the last 30 years. In 2008, the FAPESP Research Program on Global Climate Change (FRPGCC) was established, in order to further advance the understanding of the consequences of global climate and environmental changes in the state. Since 2008, FAPESP has invested more than US$ 30 million on research on this critical issue. The FRPGCC supports research projects for up to 6 years. One of its major goals is to put together by 2013, a Brazilian Model of the Global Earth System, with a focus on key regional issues such as the Amazon, Cerrado and the South Atlantic regions. The FRPGCC aims at advancing knowledge on Global Climate Change. The foundation expects that the results of the selected research projects will help in establishing the basis for scientifically based decisions and public policies in this area in Brazil and worldwide.
